The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St. Justice Felipe Reyna of the 10th Court of Appeals in Waco will be the featured speaker. Reyna is the oldest of five children to a migrant worker and paid his way through Baylor Law School by working as a janitor at the 10th Court of Appeals. Now he is administering justice on those same courthouse grounds. From janitor to justice, Reyna has overcome humble roots with hard work and determination, inspiring Texans. Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet at Westhill Church of Christ. Fellowship will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Guests are welcome. This is the month at that unfinished quilting projects challenge awards will be made. Navarro County Historical Society will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave., across from Pioneer Village. City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce St.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade. Membership is open to U.S. Armed Forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Navarro County Branch of NAACP will hold a general membership meeting at 7 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 1114 E. The second annual Freedom Walk will be held beginning at 9:15 a.m. with students and staff members from Hubbard Independent School District campuses walking to the site of the historic helicopter that was flown during the Vietnam War, located on State Highway 31. Navarro County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. in the Corsicana Public Library Civic Room, 100 N. 12th St. The society will be celebrating its 30th anniversary, and the program will be presented by the first officers of the group. Angus Volunteer Fire Department, 6008 S. Interstate 45 West, will have its annual barbecue dinner fund-raiser with dinner beginning at 5 p.m. and Ryan Payne and the Cannons starting to play at 7 p.m. Anyone who wants to enjoy a great barbecue dinner and fine entertainment is invited to come out and join in. Menu will be brisket, sausage and ham, potato salad, beans, and all the fixings for $6 per plate. Also, raffle tickets will be $1 each or six for $5.

Warehouse Living Arts Center Theatre will hold auditions at 4 p.m. at the Palace Theatre, 112 W. Sixth Ave., for “Guys and Dolls” by Frank Loesser, Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. Call backs will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15. Known as one of the America’s best-loved musicals, “Guys and Dolls” has roles for 15 adult men and six adult women (ages 18 and up), plus a large chorus. Production dates will be Nov. 20-23 at the Palace Theatre. Auditioners should dress to move, bring a prepared song and provide sheet music or taped accompaniment. An accompanist will be available. There will be cold readings from the script. Anyone unable to attend auditions on these dates, but wish to be considered for casting, should call the Warehouse Theatre by Sept. 10. American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will host the Angels of Corsicana’s troop support garage sale and bake sale beginning at 8 a.m. Your help is needed for volunteers and donations. Baked goods and garage sale items may be brought by the post after 2 p.m. daily. Angels will have “Pillows for Troops.” Come pick out a card and put the veteran’s name and address on it. Donations for pillows with attached greetings will be going to troops for the holidays. Sons of American Legion will sell barbecue sandwiches, chips and a drink for $5 beginning at 10 a.m. Entertainment with Don McRay Band from Fort Worth will begin at noon. Amvets Ladies Auxiliary Post 23 will be serving a lasagna dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. for $7 per person. An auction will begin at 6 p.m. Items are needed for the auction. Corsicana Art League will sponsor “Paint Historic Corsicana.” Look for the bright yellow shirts as artists paint the historic sights of Corsicana during the day Oct. 3-4. Anyone interested in participating check in at the Corsicana Visitor Center after 8 a.m. Oct. 3. Cost will be $15 which includes shirt. Paintings will be taken to The Art Spot at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4 for a reception, judging and sale. Paintings will be hung a the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce throughout October.

The 2008 Hangar Dance and Dinner will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Corsicana Municipal Airport, sponsored by Corsicana Field Aviation Heritage Foundation. Music will be provided by the Corsicana Swing Orchestra. A barbecue dinner will be served from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Advanced ticket prices are $20 per person and may be purchased at the airport or by phone.
