20 Under 40 - Jennifer Farmer
Farmer a teacher, business owner, mom
By Deanna Brown
Jennifer Farmer is a busy wife, mom, teacher, and shop owner — and manages to do it all with style and grace.
The daughter of Marc and Joan Maxwell, Jennifer was born and raised in Corsicana. She and husband Stan Farmer were friends in high school, but didn’t start dating until college. They married in 1995 and moved to Stephenville, where both attended Tarleton State University, with Stan there on a baseball scholarship.
After graduating, the Farmers moved to Kerrville, where Stan joined the sheriff’s department and Jennifer worked as the director of Family Sports Center. She taught aerobics and was over a staff of 30 people.
They welcomed son Jacob in 1999 and returned to Corsicana to be near their families in 2001, the same year son Tyler was born.
Jennifer taught at Navarro Elementary, then transferred to Bowie Elementary, where she teaches third and fourth grades. She also teaches aerobics at the YMCA, a sideline she’s enjoyed for 15 years.
In July 2007, Jennifer and mom, Joan, embarked on a new adventure when they opened a gift/home decor store called Life ... Made Beautiful.
“My brother-in-law Mickey Hillock told me, ‘Jennifer, there are people who talk about doing things, and people who actually do them.’ And that was the catalyst for us opening the store — because I’d been talking about doing it for years!” she said.
In addition to selling home decor items and having bridal and baby registry, Jennifer, Joan and mother-in-law Sue Farmer are available to decorate homes.
In the summer when school is out, Jennifer, 33, stays busy with her boys playing baseball, and is a presenter for Teachers Instructional Leadership Training (TILT) with Corsicana Independent School District. She is very interested in encouraging lifelong fitness for kids.
“I have a spiral notebook full of ideas I want to pursue,” she said, laughing. “I love it all — I don’t want to give any of it up!”
