Oct. 6

City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce St.



Corsicana Masonic Lodge will have a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. Buddy Wigley will present the last part of the Corsicana Lodge history. A meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. All masons are welcome.





Piecemakers’ Quilt Guild will have its regular meeting at 10 a.m. at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, the opening day of the PQG 28th annual quilt show. Members are reminded to bring their dishes for the brunch which will follow the meeting and program. Ellis Bennett, the quilt show judge this year, will present a trunk show and a history of quilts. Oct. 6-28

Piecemakers’ Quilt Guild will have its 28th annual quilt show at the Warehouse Living Arts Center, 119 W. Sixth Ave. Quilts will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Admission will be free. On Oct. 29, there will be a drawing for the PQG 2008 donation quilt. The winner need not be present to win. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and may be purchased until the drawing. Several classes and demos will be given during the show, which will be open to the public. PQG members can participate in hand quilting the donation quilt for next year. Oct. 10

A national depression screening day event will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the Corsicana Public Library, 100 N. Main St. The public is invited to attend. There will be free, anonymous screenings for depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. As part of the program, attendees will have the opportunity to complete a brief questionnaire and talk to a health professional about their results. The event will be sponsored by the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance and the Family and Consumer Sciences of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Navarro County. Senior Circle, a Navarro Regional Hospital sponsored program committed to enriching the lives of adults age 50 and better, will have “lunch and learn” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the hospital classrooms. Navarro Regional Hospital will host a car wash fund-raiser for The United Way from 1 to 4 p.m. at the hospital. Hospital administrators and directors will be hand washing cars and trucks at the charity event. Cost for cars will range from $5 to $10, while trucks will range from $10 to $12.



Oct. 10-12

The 51st annual Pelham community homecoming will be held Oct. 10-12. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Brown Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Charles Kelly as master of ceremonies; from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 11 with the Pelham High School Alumni Day, fun and frolic, family and friends activities at Pelham Community History Museum — food, drinks, games, prizes, jump fun, hay ride, music, Panther country store and raffle. Bring your lawn chairs. Museum will be open for tours. Homecoming worship services will be at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 12 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Minister R.D. Pace Sr. from Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Dallas and music by George Wilson and the Male Chorus. Dinner will follow at Pelham Community Center. Contributions will be welcomed. Navarro County Animals at Risk Foundation will sponsor a low-cost pet vaccination clinic from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Farmers Market, located on Business 45, next to the Corsicana Daily Sun. Mildred Fire Department will have its annual fund-raiser. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the music of Ira Bradford and Bustin’ Loose Band. Coyote Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force will meet at the Tucker Hardgrave Memorial Hangar at the Corsicana Municipal Airport. The speaker will be Greg Murray, who will tell about a trip driving to Alaska in a pickup truck with Col. Jerry Shelton and Ray Rodgers — a week each way. Don’t miss this meeting, it should be fun. Items to be donated to Hurricane Ike survivors such as clothing, bedding, towels and non-perishable foods will be collected from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 3000 W. State Highway 22. Distribution point will be Sacred Heart Church in Galveston.

Oct. 13

Corsicana High School Cheerleaders will host their annual Tiger tailgate party from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the high school parking lot. Join in for hot dogs, chips, cookies and a drink. Mascots, Tiki and T-bone look forward to visiting you before the Corsicana vs. Ennis football game. Flu vaccines will be administered from 10 a.m. to noon at First Baptist Church in Dawson, located on North Main and Fourth streets, sponsored by the church and Dawson Young at Heart. Providence Home Health Care of Waco will administer shots. There will be no cost for immunizations to Medicare insured and with a Medicare card and another ID. The 11th annual Scarecrow Stroll will be held on Northwest Third Street in Hubbard. Residents along this street decorate their yards with scarecrows and other fall decorations.
