Hudson seeks full term as Tax Assessor/Collector
By Bob Belcher
Russell P. Hudson is seeking election to a full term as Navarro County’s Tax Assessor/Collector in the Nov. 4 General election.
Hudson, 40, was appointed to the post in 2007 by the Navarro County Commissioners Court, to fill out the unexpired term of Peggy Blackwell Moore following her retirement from office.
His run for office this year keeps a promise he made to the commissioners — to seek election to a full term as tax assessor/collector.
“I’ve enjoyed the entire experience and I’d like to continue to do it,” Hudson said. “I have some more changes I’d still like to get done here in the office.”
Since coming on board in the position, Hudson has changed the physical layout of the tax office, switching the location of the automobile office and the property tax office to create more workstations for the department’s automobile office.
“(Auto) is busy every month, and property is busy during tax season. It made more sense to give motor vehicle more space,” he said. Currently four windows for vehicle service are available, with a fifth position that can open as needed. Previously, only three clerks were available to process motor vehicle business.
Hudson’s upcoming plans for the tax office include a renovation of the auto office to create a more customer-friendly environment. He said he plans to remove the long counter in the office, making it more accessible to those in wheelchairs.
Hudson is a 1985 graduate of Corsicana High School; attended Texas A&M University on a Collins scholarship, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration; and Amberton University in Garland, where he received his Master’s degree with a specialty in management.
Prior to taking the courthouse office, Hudson worked as an accountant at Scottish Rite Hospital, worked up from accounting to administration at Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana, and was also in business with his father doing deed and title work.
“I do enjoy what I do. I enjoy dealing with the public,” Hudson said.
