Club News

The Literary Club

The Literary Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at Kinsloe House. The program will be “Marley and Me” by John Grogan and will be presented by Marsha Banks. Hostesses will be Dottie Mayer and Dorothy Edling.



Woman’s Club House Association

“Fall Fashions” will be the program for the noon Oct. 14 Woman’s Club House Association meeting at Kinsloe House, presented by the style show committee, Elonda Cassady, chairman. Reservations for members and their guests can be made by calling (903) 874-5791 no later than noon Oct. 12. No cancellations will be accepted after this time.



José Antonio Navarro Chapter

José Antonio Navarro Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, will meet at 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at 416 W. Third Ave., Corsicana.



Dawson Divas

On the evening of Aug. 17, Dawson Divas, Red Hat Society, met for an ice cream supper at First Baptist Church in Dawson. The August birthdays celebrated were for Jean Scott, Linda Mixon and Irene Burke.

The “Great Woman” presentation was stage, screen, and television actress Bea Arthur and was given by Queen Diva Robbye Nesmith.

After the presentation, members enjoyed an evening of “chicken foot.” Prizes were won by Lynda Mantonya and Edna Earle Price. The playtime committee provided great desserts.

On Sept. 21, Dawson Divas met at Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana. The birthday of Robbye Nesmith was remembered, although she was not able to attend.

The “Great Woman” presentation was given by Betty Mitcham. She told the story of Cynthia Ann Parker, who was stolen from Fort Parker by the Comanches and who adapted to their lifestyle.

The 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 “Spooktacular” meeting will be held at the home of Bob and Robbye Nesmith, 207 S. Main St., Dawson. For directions, call (254) 578-1444. This is the annual costume contest party with prizes awarded for the funniest, most beautiful, scariest, and most original. Hostesses will be LaVada Spruiell, Betty Mitcham and Robbye Nesmith. A full meal will be served. There will be nothing to bring by members other than themselves and their guests. Contact Nesmith for costume ideas if you need help.



James Blair Chapter, DAR

James Blair Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at Kinsloe House. Chapter registrar Barbara Shore will report on lineage issues and use of “Today’s DAR” information. Regent Geneva Davis will discuss fall forum challenges. Hostesses for the meeting will be Bobbie Allen, Ann Brown and Louise Stough.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is an historical genealogical heritage organization open to female descendants of American patriots who served or gave service to the American government during the American Revolutionary War. Corsicana Newcomers Club

The October Corsicana Newcomers Club get-together will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Senior Activity Center. There will be a potluck dinner and an auction. Each member is asked to contribute an item or items for the auction. Proceeds will be distributed to local charities.

The “Lunch Bunch” will go the new Denny’s, located at Interstate 45 and South U.S. Highway 287, at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 8. Call Alice Kautz at (903) 874-0844 so she can make reservations.

The “Roadrunners” will go to Fairfield Oct. 15. They will meet at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church parking lot, across from H-E-B, and return at approximately 4 p.m. Call Peggy Dixson at (903) 874-8316 so she can arrange carpooling.

If you are new to town, you are invited to give Corsicana Newcomers Club a try. It is a fun way to meet people and get involved in activities. For more information, call Jane Sanders at (903) 874-0808.



Alpha Rho Chapter

Alpha Rho Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Kinsloe House. This dessert meeting will be hosted by the personal affairs and personal growth committee. Karen Cox is chairman, and other members are Laurie Denbow, Linda Denbow, Ruth Penque, Jeanie Slaughter and Charlye Worley. Chapter members should call for reservations at (903) 874-8846 and let Gay Lyn Hendrik know you will be there.

The program will be “Scrap Your Story,” to encourage scrapbooking for creativity and imagination to fit the international program theme of “Passion for Learning the Essence of Youth.”
