Weekend shooting hurts one
Alleged assailant turns self in after Saturday incident
A man was wounded by gunfire early Saturday following a quarrel with another man, according to Corsicana police reports.
Police stopped a speeding vehicle Saturday morning shortly after midnight, and found Darrell Brandon, 31, had been wounded by gunfire. Friends were transporting Brandon to the hospital for treatment.
As officers got Brandon to the hospital, a suspect in the shooting, William Ballard, turned himself in to authorities at the police department, according to interim Police Chief Ladena Baggett.
Baggett said the incident occurred shortly after midnight Saturday in the 100 block of West 16th Avenue. Baggett said the men were apparently arguing over a girlfriend when the shooting occurred.
William Ballard was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon. Bond for Ballard was set at $30,000 by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Vicki Gray.
In another weekend incident, a Corsicana man was arrested on charges of assaulting a public servant following an altercation with Corsicana police officers.
Jody Sorrells Jr. was arrested Sunday afternoon in the 1000 block of Northwood Boulevard. Baggett said Sorrells assaulted officer Michael Dockery in an altercation at the man’s apartment shortly before 5 p.m.
Bond for Sorrells was set at $10,000 by JP Gray on the assault charge.
