Faith Lutheran Church, 3824 W. State Highway 22, invites you to the 16th annual Oktoberfest, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18. There will be freshly made bread and cinnamon rolls, cookies, pies and cakes for sale, a rummage sale, arts, crafts and more. There will also be a drawing for a king-size quilt, lap quilt, king-size bed set, handmade basket made in Togo, West Africa, and hand-embroidered tablecloth and eight napkins. Great German food will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Menu will be bratwurst dinners with sauerkraut, German potato salad, green beans and drink for $6.50. Brats on a bun will be $3. It will be food and fun for the whole family.

Kelly’s Temple Church of God In Christ, 501 N. Third St., where Elder Billy Joe Kelly serves as pastor, will host the 2008 women’s conference at 4 p.m. Oct. 12. The speaker will be Evangelist Calisha Woods of Fairbanks, Alaska. She is the daughter of Linda and Michael Glover, granddaughter of the late Gustavia Renfro Kelly and the late Rhesa B. Miller, and great-granddaughter of the late Elder P.R. Renfro and Mother Marie Renfro, founders of the Greater Renfro Memorial COGIC. Woods will be accompanied by Evangelist Angela Jones of Anchorage, Alaska, and Evangelist Denise Long of Fairbanks, Alaska. The theme will be “God’s Calling For Accountability.”
She is author of three books and has her own publishing company. She is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in ministry and she plans to get her master’s degree in Christian counseling. She hosts her own talk show “Food For Your Soul.” You are invited to come and hear this anointed young lady preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Praise and worship will be by recording artist psalmist Willene Luper of The Potter’s House. Luper recorded “Woman, Thou Art Loosed,” which reinforces Bishop T.D. Jake’s stage play and movie. She completed her bachelor’s degree in 1997 after student teaching in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate with highest distinction and highest honors, double majoring in journalism education and speech and drama from the University of Iowa. Two years later, she completed her master’s degree in educational administration at the University of Iowa.
Prior to receiving certification to be a principal, Luper was selected to be a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and conduct research on the educational system in Ghana, West Africa. Luper has completed her educational administration doctoral degree course work at University of North Texas. She has showcased her vocal talent in front of a wide range of audiences.
All ladies are asked to wear white for the conference. Mistress of ceremony will be Sister Carlette Thigpin of Fort Worth. Barry United Methodist Church and Emhouse United Methodist Church will have its Lord’s Acre Nov. 1 at the Fannie Mae Vernon Room of the Navarro County Exposition Center, State Highway 22, Corsicana. Country store and sweet shop will open at 10:30 a.m. with lunch served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu will be turkey and dressing and trimmings, and homemade pies. Carry-out meals will be available. Auction will begin at 1 p.m.

Blooming Grove United Methodist Church will have its Lord’s Acre dinner and sale Oct. 11. The day’s events will begin with the country store at 9 a.m. with “white elephant” items, canned goods, baked goodies and a variety of handmade items. A barbecue lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. Call (903) 695-2334 for take-out meals starting at 11 a.m. Menu will include brisket, potato salad, coleslaw, pinto beans, tea and dessert. Cost will be $8 for adults and $6 for children 8 and under. Calvary Church invites the public to join in at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 1114 E. Sixth Ave., with Apostle David Floyd and Rehoboth Temple of the Holy Spirit of Dallas.
If you have been resuscitating life’s problems over and over, you don’t need resuscitation, you need resurrection. When you are resuscitated every sickness, pain, problem that you had before CPR (Christian Postponement of Reality), you will still encounter after CPR has been successfully performed. Church in the Park, where James Shugart is pastor, meets at Fullerton-Garitty Park pavilion at 9 a.m. each Sunday. Church in the Park was begun as a ministry for folks of any or no denomination who are not involved in a local church. First United Methodist Church of Dawson, located at 200 N. Main St., will hold its Lord’s Acre Oct. 11. A live auction will begin at 1 p.m. The country store will open at 10:30 a.m. The barbecue lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 4 to 12 years old, and children under 4 will eat free. The lunch will consist of barbecue brisket, pinto beans, potato salad, coleslaw, pickles, onions, peppers, bread, dessert and a beverage. Take-out meals will be available. Proceeds from the Lord’s Acre will go to special church and community projects.

First United Methodist Church of Hubbard, 208 N.W. Second St., will have its 30th annual Lord’s Acre festival Oct. 18. From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the country store will be open at fellowship hall with many handmade items and baked goods available for purchase. Visitors will also have an opportunity to preview the many beautiful quilts made by the Quilters for Christ as well as other items that will be in the auction that begins at 2 p.m. At the conclusion of the auction, a turkey and dressing meal will be served in the Haralson Center, adjacent to the church. Greater Haynes Memorial Church of God in Christ will celebrate the pastoral anniversary with the 20th anniversary and 21 years of service for Elder and Mrs. C.D. Washington at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 12. Landmark Independent Baptist Church, 4429 W. State Highway 31, invites all to visit the “Pumpkin Patch” from Oct. 19 through Nov. 8. The pumpkin patch will be a fund-raiser with proceeds going into the building fund. The pumpkin patch will have pumpkins of all sizes, photo opportunities, crafts, baked goods and story time for the kids featuring “The Pumpkin Parable” and more. The pumpkin patch’s hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sundays.

Lighthouse of Praise, 200 E. Collin St., invites the public to hear the Nashville, Tenn.,-based “Blackwood Legacy” gospel group at 7 p.m. Oct. 24. The group features former Blackwood Brothers Quartet lead singer and Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee Rick Price. Admission will be free and a love offering will be received.
Price has gathered some of the most-talented and sought-after gospel artists on the scene today to create a dynamic Blackwood Brothers tribute concert that features the well-remembered old favorites such as “Beulah Land” and “How Great Thou Art,” as well as fresh new gospel and worship music. Included in the lineup is Washington State native Luke Yates, a dynamic pianist and vocalist who recently exploded on the gospel music scene, and former Florida Boys tenor Don E. Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County, 4495 W. State Highway 22, invites you to join in at 10 a.m. each Sunday for worship.
On Oct. 12, there will be a baby shower (girls) for two of the church’s newest attendees. Oct. 19 is bring a friend to church day. Halloween weekend activities are planned for a Oct. 31 “truck or treat” including games, hot dogs and candy; Nov. 1 with arena events and concessions available; and Nov. 2 with the new church dedication and two worship services at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
