Senior Circle

Senior Circle, a program enriching the lives of adults age 50 and older, meets for “lunch and learn” at 11:30 a.m. the second Friday of each month in the Navarro Regional Hospital classrooms. The group also meets at 9 a.m. every Monday for games in the NRH dining room. Other events are held, as well. For more information, contact Connie Beal at (903) 654-6802.

Dawson Lions Club

Dawson Lions Club met at noon Sept. 24 in fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church of Dawson. The meeting was called to order by Jo Maxwell, Lion president. The Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of “God Bless America” were led by Lion Norman Summers with piano accompaniment by Lion Lena Mae Carver. Lions Bobbie and Norman Summers were congratulated on their 60th wedding anniversary. The Rev. Michael Redmond, Lion chaplain, asked the blessing on the meal. Guests were served first. They were Amy Callarman, Dawson principal; Linda Bryant, Dawson mayor; Brenda Griggs, Jimmy Bruce, Clay Beard, James Lagomarsino and Stephen Farris.

After the meal, Farris, who is assistant editor of Navarro County Times, gave the club an update on the status of the Interurban 305 railcar which is still being refurbished. The car is supposed to come to rest finally at a location next to the Corsicana Visitor Center if all goes according to plan, although the exact date is not yet known for sure.

During the business meeting, the club voted to donate $500 to Dawson Independent School District to help purchase the plastic inflatable helmet the football team runs through at games. Maxwell provided members a checklist to evaluate the activities of the club and return at the next meeting. Four new members were initiated. They are Linda Bryant and Brenda Griggs, sponsored by Lion Jo Maxwell; and Amy Callarman and Jimmy Bruce, sponsored by Lion Cecil Sanders. It was announced that the board of directors would meet at 11:30 a.m. before each regular club meeting.

Woman’s Club House Association

The last Wednesday of each month has traditionally been designated as games day at Kinsloe House where members are cordially invited to make reservations for themselves and/or guests for a table of card or board games (bring your own). It will be Dutch treat and it will be a time of fellowship, pleasant conversation and a delicious lunch. Bobbie Johnson will be the hostess for Oct. 29. Members are urged to make reservations by noon Oct. 27 by calling Kinsloe House at (903) 874-5891.

JESA

Jackson Ex-Students Association Inc. has announced the revitalization committee has completed the first major task of enclosing the Bear’s Field with a six-foot cyclone fence, done by American Fence Company and financed by less than 100 interested people.

JESA officers and members are grateful for the financial blessings and the commitment from those willing workers including Margaret English Norman, Jerry Brandon, Marion (M.D.) Jackson, Scharmal Lewis-Newson, Sirvilla Monie, Bobby Sparks, Dallas Metroplex JESA Chapter, and Gloria Caruth Johnson.

The members of the JESA revitalization committee are attempting to follow through with the desires and aspirations of their founders who envisioned the preservation of Bear’s Field as a community park, a landmark that will help perpetuate the Jacksonian heritage and a memoriam to the many accomplishments of the alumni and coaches who fought so hard to make the Jackson Bears’ name remembered as a name of excellence and high standards.
