Helping keep kids safe

IMPACT Navarro and law enforcement partner for project

From Staff Reports

The Corsicana Police Department and the Texas Highway Patrol -Corsicana Office are serious about eliminating irresponsible alcohol use. Toward this end, IMPACT Navarro, a community coalition to prevent youth substance abuse, presented the respective departments with new breathalyzers on Tuesday. These tools will enhance the ability of local law enforcement to detect alcohol use by minors at local parties as well as identify drunken drivers.

The Corsicana PD and the Corsicana Texas Highway Patrol have been working closely with the IMPACT Navarro community coalition to increase enforcement of alcohol laws, but lack of resources sometimes presents a challenge.

“IMPACT Navarro has significantly helped our community increase awareness and prevention efforts regarding alcohol use by underage youth,” said Randy Bratton, Corsicana Chief of Police

IMPACT Navarro is an initiative of Drug Prevention Resources, Inc., a non-profit substance abuse agency which has served Texas since 1935. The agency works collaboratively to improve community alcohol policies, increase enforcement of alcohol laws, and educate community members on the serious dangers of high-risk drinking.

“All we want to do is make Corsicana a safer, healthier place for kids,” says IMPACT coalition chair Jerry Ashcraft, “That’s our goal!”
