Blooming Grove Elementary School will have its sixth annual Veteran’s Day program at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the elementary cafeteria. It will be presented by the second and third grade students, though the entire student body will be present.
“Our program will be about the early beginnings of our country,” said Kay Melton, program organizer. “It will include a flag ceremony by the Girl Scouts and ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’ The students will also recite the ‘Preamble of the Constitution’ and sing a song in which they name all 50 states. They will also sing the anthems of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.”
Veterans present for the ceremony will be honored with a special song and candlelight ceremony. The audience will join in singing “God Bless America.” A high school student will play “Taps.” Third graders will participate with 37 students having speaking parts.
“After the program, veterans in attendance will be presented a card designed by Barbara Lewis,” Melton said. “Mr. David Brewer, our principal, will call the names of the veterans as the students give the cards.”
