Fort Hood memorial service set for Tuesday

FORT HOOD — The grieving process at Fort Hood over gunfire that claimed 13 lives will include a formal memorial service with President Barack Obama.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone on Monday announced a "traditional" memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. CST Tuesday. The post commander says the program will include prayers, speakers, Bible verses, a sermon, music, a roll call of names of the dead, plus a 21-gun salute.

The suspect in Thursday's shootings, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was wounded by civilian police and was in stable condition Monday at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Cone says counseling and additional recovery services are available to troops, civilians and others.

Cone says the "entire resources at the United States Army are at the disposal of Fort Hood and its population to help deal with the impact of this event."
