Community National makes record donation

It was a big check for a big cause — helping United Way of Navarro County help others.

Community National Bank & Trust of Texas pledged $12,466 to this year’s United Way campaign, the most the bank has ever given. Of this amount, $6,300 was the bank’s corporate contribution and $6,166 was pledged by bank employees. A check presentation was held Monday at the bank to commemorate the donation to aid the partner agencies of United Way of Navarro County.

“Our employee goal was $5,000, but they really came through for United Way this year,” said Charles Campbell, who headed the campaign committee with Michelle Jenkins, Stephanie Elkins and Tony Dromgoole. “They realized that many are not as fortunate as we are to work for a stable company. A lot of people in our community are in need of help in this tough economy,” added Campbell.

Paul Hooper, campaign chairman for United Way of Navarro County, praised the bank’s efforts in helping the community.

“It takes everyone in a community working together to create a brighter future,” Hooper said. “Community National Bank & Trust has been, and continues to be, a corporate leader in supporting our community in a number of ways. United Way Navarro County is extremely pleased to see they have surpassed their campaign goal and this contribution will go a long ways in helping those with needs in our community.”

Susan Bruce, president of United Way of Navarro County, also acknowledged the efforts of the bank and its employees.

“Without question, Community National Bank & Trust is always first in line to support our community,” Bruce said.

The bank sponsored a number of prizes and events such as a hamburger cookout and riddle contest to help the employees exceed their goal.

"The economy may be down but the generosity of Community National Bank & Trust and it’s employees has soared to new highs. Your community thanks you and so do we,” said Ellen Block, executive director of United Way of Navarro County.

“I’m very proud of our employees for their generosity,” said K.C. Wyatt, president of the bank.
