Juried Art show comes to Warehouse

The Navarro Council of the Arts is pleased to present the 23rd Annual National Juried Art Show at the Warehouse Gallery. The Navarro Council of the Arts is pleased to have John Pototschnik as the juror for this event.

Pototschnik was born in St. Ives, Cornwall, England but grew up in Wichita, Kan. He received his art training at Wichita State University in advertising design, followed by instruction in illustration and design at Art Center College in Los Angeles. Most recently he has studied human anatomy at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, Conn.

In 1982, Pototschnik began painting professionally in the fine arts. Prior to that, he worked as a freelance illustrator for ten years with many of Dallas’ major advertising agencies and companies.

Since beginning his fine art career, Pototschnik has become a popular speaker and juror among art organizations. His paintings are in many private collections from Hawaii to Rhode Island and also in several public collections including: cities, banks, corporations and museums.

Pototschnik resides in Wylie with his wife Marcia. They have two grown sons. He is a past president of Artists and Craftsmen Associated and the Plano Art Association. He has been honored with four George Washington Honor Medals from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, the John Steven Jones Fellowship, plus many other regional and national awards. He is recognized in “Who’s Who in American Art” and “Who’s Who in the Southwest”. His work has appeared in “First”, “The Artist’s Magazine”, “Southwest Art”, “American Artist”, “PleinAir Magazine” and “International Artist”, plus six books...”The Best of Portrait Painting”, “200 Great Painting Ideas for Artists”, and “Expressing the Visual Language of the Landscape”, “100 Ways to Paint Landscapes”, “100 Ways to Paint Flowers and Gardens”, and “100 Ways to Paint Seascapes, Rivers and Lakes”. Several of his paintings have been published by the New York Graphic Society. He is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America and the Outdoor Painters Society.

The art exhibition and competition brings an eclectic mix of entries from artists throughout the United States. Entries include all mediums of work and feature a varied mix. More than 40 artists from across the country and more than 80 works were chosen to this prestigious event.

Eleven Navarro County artists, Helen Albritton, June Cade, Stephanie Ford, Donna Ingham, Barbara Jones, Barbara Lewis, Deb Miller, Chuck Miller, Margie Taylor, Trudy Wallace and Lucy Williams were all chosen for the exhibit and have works featured in the display.

This exhibit is the perfect opportunity to see all forms of visual arts and see what is new in the arts world.

The community will have an opportunity to see this wonderful exhibit and are welcome to the opening reception on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. The juror and other artists will be on hand to answer questions about the artwork. In addition, the announcement of the winners will be made.

The Navarro Council of the Art’s exhibit is on display Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m., and Friday from noon to 4 p.m. in the Warehouse Living Arts Center’s gallery. For more information, please call the Arts Council at (903) 872-5411.
