Pearce closed, but new exhibits coming

From Staff Reports

The Pearce Collections Museum at Navarro College will close for the holidays Dec. 22 through Jan. 19.

During this time, the entire Western Art gallery will be repainted and a new hanging system will be installed for the art collection.

Three new temporary exhibitions will debut on Jan. 20 when the museum reopens: “War on the Water” will tell the story of the building of the Union and Confederate Navies, the blockade, and the Battle of the Monitor and the Merrimac; a smaller exhibition, “Defending their Honor: Men of Color in the Civil War,” will provide an interesting perspective on African-Americans serving in the Union Army; and, in the art gallery, “Don’t Squat with you Spurs On: A Little Cowboy Humor,” will reflect the lighter side of cowboy life.

The museum hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays noon to 4 p.m. Regular admission fees apply.

For further information, call (903) 875-7642 or (903) 875-7596, or www.pearcecollections.us.
