If your planning on paying your property taxes before the end of the year, don’t schedule your trip to the courthouse for Wednesday afternoon.
All offices in the Navarro County Courthouse are closing at noon on Wednesday, New Year’s Eve. The Corsicana Independent School District tax office will follow suit, according to a CISD tax office employee.
While current property tax bills don’t incur any penalties or late charges until after Jan. 31 each year, many taxpayers prefer to get their payments made within the current year for income tax purposes. The holiday schedule means Wednesday afternoon will not be an option for those who wish to pay in person.
But should you fail to get to the tax office by noon Wednesday, there is still an option — mailing your payment that same day at the post office.
“Tax payments that are mailed with a Dec. 31 postmark will still be counted as paid in 2008,” said Russell Hudson, Navarro County Tax Assessor/Collector.
In addition to the early Wednesday closing, the courthouse will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 1 and 2. It will reopen for normal business on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009. County commissioners approved the “extra” holiday on Friday, Jan. 2 earlier this month.
