Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest from throughout Navarro County

The Navarro County Courthouse Veteran’s Day program will take place at 11 a.m. on the northwest corner of the courthouse in front of the Navarro County War Memorial. Guest speaker for the program will be Tim Easley, who is heading up his final Veteran’s Day program. Dr. Rick Lamb will offer prayers, Zanada Schoppert will sing the National Anthem, The Navarro County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard will present the colors and salute, Jackie Farmer will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and Les Grayson will play taps. The public is invited to attend and bring lawn chairs for the event.

 

Historic Downtown Corsicana’s Monthly Second Saturday Sidewalk Sales will be held from 10 am till 5 pm. “Giving Thanksgiving Back” is the theme for this month where participating merchants are invited to decorate boxes for customers to bring in non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food bank. Participating merchants can then offer discounts to those customers who bring in donations. Registered vendors that complement existing downtown product offerings will be setting up in front of vacant storefronts. Interested vendors and downtown merchants can contact Cheryl Jordan, Main Street Program Assistant, at (903) 654-4852 or cjordan@ci.corsicana.tx.us for further information.  We encourage the local public to use this opportunity to shop downtown Corsicana.

When Are We Going Home Ministry’s Riding High Horsemanship program will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cowboy Church in Ennis. This is a free riding program for medically challenged, disabled and special needs children 0-21 and their immediate siblings. Lunch is included. Volunteers are available for front and side walking as well as a ramp for wheelchairs. Please RSVP for lunch to wawahn@gmail.com.

The House of Refuge will be at Van’s Jewelers displaying the quilts that are being raffled off on Dec. 17, 2012. The tickets are $10 each, and all proceeds go toward the operations of the House of Refuge. For more information call (903) 874-3421.
