Corsicana — Lane Harrington, a senior at Frost High School and member of the Frost FFA, won the grand champion prize in the lamb division Wednesday at the Navarro County Youth Expo.

It’s Harrington’s first year to show a lamb, although he’s had years of experience showing goats. Harrington brought two lambs to the Expo, but neither were his favorites. His favorite went to the large San Antonio show earlier this spring. He decided to branch out from goats because he knew he’d have plenty of support.

“I just liked them, and I had people who would help me,” Harrington said.

The Reserve Champion prize went to Keller Southard, Blooming Grove FFA.

Judge Colt Sharpton is director of the sheep center at Texas A&M, and a 2007 graduate of A&M. He’s working on his master’s degree in small ruminant reproduction, and has judged sheep shows all over the southern United States.

The top senior showmanship prize went to Steely Southard, with Brody Owens receiving reserve, and Katie Miller taking third. In the junior division of showmanship, Grand Champion was Korri Owens, with Delaney Tidwell receiving reserve and Morgan Dawson as third.

Steely Southard said she works for an hour a day with the sheep, to make them comfortable walking without halters, and being groomed and handled.

The winners of each category were as follows: (the lambs are broken into category based on their weight)
