Wortham ISD named finalist in Texas Honor School Boards awards

Corsicana — The Wortham Independent School District Board of Trustees is one of five districts statewide in the running for “Outstanding School Board of the Year.”

Five school boards from across the state were selected on Aug. 22 as Honor School boards in the Texas Association of school Administrators (TASA) annual School board Awards Program. The school boards awards program has recognized outstanding Texas school boards for their commitment to school children and their communities since 1971.

In addition to Wortham, other Honor School Boards are Aldine, ESC 4, superintendent Wanda Bamberg; Edinburg CISD, ESC 1, superintendent Rene Gutierrez; Hillsboro ISD, ESC 12, superintendent Buck Gilcrease, and Mesquite ISD, ESC 10, superintendent Linda Henrie. Dr. Bruce Tabor is the Wortham ISD superintendent.

The five school board finalists will be interviewed at the TASA/TASB Convention in Dallas and one school board will be selected as the 2013 Outstanding School board of the Year. All five Honor Board finalists will be recognized Sept. 27 at the Dallas Convention Center.

Wortham ISD was chosen by a select Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) committee as Regional School Board of the Year on August. As a regional honoree, Wortham ISD’s Board of Trustees, represents districts with less than 1000 students.

“I commend our trustees for their leadership and teamwork,” Tabor said of the honor. “They continue to place the highest priority on students by enacting policies and improvements that support commitment to caring concern, and common sense in dedication to excellence.”
