Manhunt for carjack suspects called off

Corsicana — A Christmas Eve manhunt for two carjacking suspects was called off late Tuesday night after a five hour search failed to turn up the suspects.

The suspects allegedly took a car at gunpoint from a car wash on Seventh Avenue in Corsicana about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Corsicana Police chased the subjects and the vehicle north out of the city to FM 1603 where the stolen car crashed into a fence and the two suspects fled the car on foot.

The suspects were described as black males, both wearing shorts.

Police, sheriff’s deputies, a Navarro County constable, DPS troopers, a search helicopter and tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice joined in the search on FM 1603, FM 1129, and NECR 0190 in an effort to locate the suspects.

Authorities did receive reports of the suspects being spotted in the area during the search, but were not able to locate them.

Sheriff Elmer Tanner called the search off about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday after the tracking dogs failed to pick up any further trail on the suspects.

Tanner said units would continue to patrol the area after the search ended, and urged residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.
