Corsicana — VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Site open from 2 until 7 p.m. to assist the elderly and low income file their tax returns at the Corsicana YMCA. To schedule an appointment, call 281-682-0928.

The Corsicana Newcomers' Club Lunch Bunch will travel to Waxahachie to dine at The Dove's Nest. We'll carpool if we can so call Pat Schroeder at 903-872-9663 to get your name on the list.

Feb. 14

The American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will host a Valentines Day Dance with The Honky Tonkers  from 8 p.m. to closing. Entry fee of $5 at the door. For further information call 903-874-3938 after 2 p.m. Like us on Facebook (American Legion Post 22 Johnson-Wiggins).

The Navarro County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Center, 1360 Northwest Ave. The program will be History of Jackson High School presented by Ruby Williams. All former school employees are invited to attend.

Relay for Life of Navarro County (benefiting the American Cancer Society) will hold a bake sale and designer cake auction in the lobby of Community National Bank and Trust, 321 N. 15th St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14.

The Navarro County Aggie Moms present the Singing Aggie Cadets in concert at the Palace Theatre at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for floor seats, $20 for balcony. Tickets may be purchased from a member of the Navarro County Aggie Moms Club, or by calling the Palace Theatre box office at (903) 874-7792. Boy Scouts of America will hold “Scouting for Food.” Help Scouts feed the hungry by placing your donation of food items on your doorstep before 10 a.m. A Scout will be by to pick them up that morning. Donations may include canned vegetables, canned soups/juices, canned meats, canned baby formula, canned chili, and boxed helper-style pasta meals.

    A baseball coach at heart, about a year ago Aaron Tidwell began to seriously focus on education administration. He just didn’t think an opportunity would present itself so soon. Mildred Independent School District board members approved the 31-year-old Corsicana native as the high school’s new principal Monday night.
