Corsicana — Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Sterling House Assisted Living, 3329 W. Seventh Ave. Sponsored by Family Care of Texas. This support group meets each third Tuesday of the month to improve the quality of life for the patient with Alzheimer’s and their family. This month’s topic is “Stress indicators and stress responses for Alz.” Snacks and door prizes.

Feb. 19

Navarro Regional Hospital’s Senior Circle Lunch Bunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Sirloin Stockade. For reservations and more information, contact Connie Beal at 903-654-6892 or email connie_beal@chs.net.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Site will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. to assist the elderly and low income to file their tax returns at the Kerens Public Library. To schedule an appointment call  281-682-0928.

The Kinsloe House will host the American Business Womens’ Association to present the program on Feb. 19, 2014 at 12 p.m. on Feb. 19. The entertainment for the day will be Byron Haynie and Zanada Schoppert. Members must make their reservations or cancellations by noon, Feb. 17, 2014 by calling the Kinsloe House at 903-874-5791 or emailing at thekinsloehouse@yahoo.com.

Corsicana Newcomers’ Club will meet at the Kinsloe House at 11 a.m. to learn of the rich history of the Cumbie Museum with guests Gary and Sarah Farley. Call Marge Oslick at 903-872-3508 for more information and reservations.

Feb. 22

The G.W. Jackson Multicultural Society Inc. presents A Gospel Extravaganza — Make a Joyful Noise through song and dance at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at the IOOF Event Center. Scheduled to perform are  Mattie Robinson, concert pianist/vocalist of Austin; The Gospel Five, Chosen Ministry of Navarro College, M. Jackson and M. Bell, Lifeline Church Praise Dancers, and Corsicana Community Youth Choir, Orlando Williams. Tickets are $15 per person or two for $25.   • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
