Feb. 28

Relay for Life team “Sugar Rush for a Cure” will hold a Lunch Time Special at Super 1 Foods, 100 N. 15th St., from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Taco Soup and a drink with all the trimmings will be sold for $6, with sweet treats available for purchase as well. All proceeds of this fundraiser toward Relay for Life. For more information contact Amanda Spear or Lois Garrett at (903) 872-9300.



March 1

The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold an Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Republican Headquarters at 111-B West Third Avenue in downtown Corsicana. Voters can pick-up free yard signs and campaign materials. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the election.



March 2

Carter BloodCare is holding a blood drive in Kerens from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Kerens First United Methodist Church, 205 NW Second Street, on the Carter BloodCare bus. For more information or to make an appointment, call Leslie Byrd at 903-874-1225.

Piecemakers' Quilt Guild of Corsicana  meets on the first Monday of every month at 9:30 a.m. Each meeting starts with refreshments and a time to visit with other members and visitors. A short business meeting starts at 10 a.m., followed by door prizes and show and tell. This month's program features a member of our guild, Susan Copeland demonstrating sewing fabric post cards with a workshop following program. Visitors are welcome to come and join us. Oak Valley crime watch meeting held at 6:30 p.m. at the community center. Please bring your favorite dish. Everyone is welcome.

Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. is one of musical theater's brightest and most innovative shows, and will be performed by the Corsicana Children’s Company of Warehouse Living Arts Theatre. It’s based on the Emmy Award winning 1970's educational animated TV series. The show runs March 5,6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and March 8 and 9 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for students and $6 for kids 12 and under. Eureka Crime Watch will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Eureka United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. Special guest will be Brian Srba with Texas Parks and Wildlife. Join your friends and neighbors for this educational meeting. Refreshments will be served.



The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 22 will hold their regular monthly meeting at the American Legion Post on North Beaton St. They will meet at 6 p.m. again this month. All members are urged to attend as there are some important business items that must be discussed and decisions made on upcoming projects. Visitors are always welcome.



Kinsloe House Resolutions Committee will present a program with the Navarro College Collegiate Singers, headed by Dr. Rodney Haedge with Christina Mims as accompanist. March 8

Bark for Life (sponsored by the American Cancer Society) will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bunert Park. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., $10 per dog. It is a non-competitve walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. Also at the event will be a CASI-qualifying chili cookoff event, and a Car Show sponsored by Cars of Navarro County.



When Are We Going Home Ministry and Break N Free Camp presents the Riding High Horsemanship Program to be held at 4719 NECR 1040 in Rice. Call for directions and to RSVP to (903) 422-6120. This event is free and open to all medically challenged, special needs and disabled children and foster children and their immediate siblings up to the age of 21. Lunch will be provided. A handicapped ramp is available, as well as side/front walkers, and a playground. The event will include riding, saddling, safety, feeding and care of horses, and a short devotion.

A benefit for Eddie Smith will be held at The Remington, 122 W. Third Ave., from 1 to 7 p.m. There will be live music by Faster Horses and Sissy Perry with Robert Horvath and the Groovetones. Live auction as well. Eddie Smith suffered a heart attack which resulted in being transported by air ambulance. He and his family are self-employed and have no health insurance. The Remington is acception donations for raffle/auction items and food to serve, as well as cash donations. An account is established at Chase Bank in the name of Smith Benefit.

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Sirloin Stockade, 2508 West 7th Ave, Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28,1961 and May 7,1975, or in ANY duty location between Aug. 5,1964 and May 7,1975. Corsicana Vendor’s Day will be held at 801 N. 13th St. from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This show will benefit the Navarro County Food Pantry. Vendors will do individual raffles for items at their booths with cash from these raffles being donated to the Food Pantry in order to purchase food in bulk from the food bank. Each customer that brings in items for the food pantry will be given an entry for the door prize. Five items equals five entries.



March 16

Benefit and Auction for Bruce Adams will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Remington Ranch Event Center, 122 W. Third Ave., Corsicana. On July 4, 2013, Adams suffered a stroke and was transported by air ambulance to Baylor. He had a second stroke in the emergency room, and was in the hospital for several months. Since he has not been able to return to work, family and friends are hosting this brisket lunch benefit and auction to help him with his mounting medical bills. Adams served as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years for the Navarro Volunteer Fire Department, and they are assisting with the auction. Ira Bradford and Bustin’ Loose will perform. United Way of Navarro County is presenting a fundraising Style Show and Expo from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cook Center at Navarro College. Tickets are $20 per person, or a VIP table of 8 is available for $250. The style show will feature fashions from several local merchants, and food samples will be provided from a variety of local restaurants. Corsicana Parks and Recreation Department presents Biker Bash III/Poker Run with kickstands up at 10 a.m. This 100-miles tri-county ride will begin at the Corsicana Government Center, and end at OT’s Sports Bar and Grill. Registration is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the gate the day of, or you may pre-register by calling (903) 654-4874. Your registration fee ($20 pre, $25 at the gate) will include the poker hand, T-shirt, lunch, and entry for the bike show and contests. There will be a tattoo contest, bike show, 50/50 drawing and more.
