The Corsicana City Council awarded a bid for the relocation of a waterline along Dobbins Road to Capps-Capco Construction for $315,535, when the group met in regular session Tuesday.
The waterline will be relocated to the north right of way as a preliminary step towards rebuilding Dobbins. Like Forrest, Dobbins will be reconstructed in concrete, and having a waterline beneath a new road is a bad idea in case of breaks.
Two bids were submitted in Jan. 3, and the Capps-Capco was the better bid, according to City Engineer Elizabeth Borstad.
In other business, the council authorized a rezoning of a home at 3290 N. Business 45 from light industrial to commercial. Homes are not allowed to be within an industrial zone. Without the rezoning, if the house were destroyed, the owners couldn’t be allowed to rebuild, explained Audrey Sloan, planning and zoning director for the city.
The council spent about 40 minutes in executive session, but took no action when they returned to open session.
During the mayor’s reports and announcements, he said that the city offices will be closed on Jan. 21 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day recognition.
