Corsicana — Two juveniles are jailed following a high speed chase in a stolen truck that ended in Corsicana early Sunday morning.

The two, ages 15 and 16, were being pursued by Athens Police and Henderson County DPS troopers shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. The truck had been reported stolen out of Henderson County, heading east toward Corsicana.

Corsicana Police were alerted to the pursuit and Officers Whitney Goulding and Trvis Bedsole deployed "spike strips" several blocks apart on East Highway 31 east of Interstate 45. The strips managed to flatten two tires on the fleeing truck, along with a tire on a DPS vehicle pursusing the truck.

Corsicana Police Chief Randy Bratton said the truck came to a stop in the 1600 block of East Highway 31 and the driver of the truck exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was captured a short time later by a DPS trooper in the 500 block of Powell. The passenger in the truck stayed in the vehicle and was arrested by Corsicana Police.

The two juveniles were tranported to the Palestine juvenile detention center by Athens Police.

The two are charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and felony evading. More charges are possible, Bratton said.

Bratton praised the work of the two officers in deploying the spike strips. With speeds of the fleeing truck reaching 90 miles an hour at times, he said it was very difficult and dangerous to deploy the spike strips and commended the officers for their efforts.
