Corsicana — The Daily Sun and several area businesses are teaming up on a new promotion that could put buying power in your pocket. “It Pays to Shop Local” starts Wednesday.

Participating businesses will have areas where you can sign up to win prizes from that business, as well as a monthly grand prize of a $100 gift certificate to the participating business of the winner’s choosing. There is a catch though: the grand prize amount is doubled to $200 if the winner is a current subscriber of the Corsicana Daily Sun.

“Corsicana and Navarro County are close-knit,” Daily Sun Sales Manager Karen Davis said. “This is an opportunity for us to not only promote local businesses, but also to encourage area consumers to spend their dollars here.

“We’re all family, and families help one another. What better way to do that than shop with your neighbors and friends who own local businesses.”

Each Wednesday, you can check the pages of the Daily Sun to see the participating businesses. This week, it kicks off with Harvie’s, Pack ‘n Mail, Maui Tan and the Copy Center. Each will have a sign-up area for you to visit. Miles’ Furniture and Gibson Home Center will “join the movement” next week, but sign up boxes are already available there.

After the final Wednesday of each month, each local business will hold its drawing to award a prize from its store. Then, the entries will be collected, and a grand prize winner drawn.

The promotion will also be prominently highlighted at, and on the Daily Sun’s Facebook page, which boasts more than 9,000 “Likes.”
