Staples to visit county

Ag Commissioner plans run for Lt. Governor

Corsicana — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples will be the special guest speaker at 7 p.m. Monday as the Republican Party Of Navarro County holds its next County Executive Committee Meeting at Republican headquarters located at 111-B West Third Avenue in downtown Corsicana.

Staples has announced his intention to run for Lieutenant Governor in 2014.

In a news release announcing the event, the Republican Party of Navarro County called Staples one of Texas’ top conservatives in the Texas legislature. As a state representative and as a state senator, Staples helped pass landmark lawsuit abuse reform and sponsored a state constitutional amendment defining marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Commissioner Staples has championed private property owner rights, including the passage of a 2009 state constitutional amendment protecting homeowners and landowners from eminent domain abuses. He has challenged the Obama Administration to allocate sufficient resources to secure the Texas border against drug dealers and human smugglers.

A social time hosted by the Navarro County Republican Women will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m., saluting elected officials prior to the meeting.

All registered voters are welcome to attend. For more information, reference the website www.navgop.com.
