The Corsicana Emergency Corps took time Friday to honor several of its members for service to the community and Navarro County with its annual awards banquet.
It was the 37th annual awards dinner for the community support group. Awards were presented for various service year levels, and new officers chosen for the coming year.
A highlight of the evening was the naming of the “Outstanding Member” for the agency, this year going to longtime CEC member Darrell Posey. Posey was also honored with a 30 year service award by Chief Ron Wing.
Also honored with 20 year service awards were Rhonda Davis and Kevin Gentry. CEC member Ron Bennett was the recipient of a 15 year service award.
Navarro County Sheriff Elmer Tanner prsented the evening’s program, and administered the oath of office the 2013 slate of officers, including Chief Ron Wing; Assistant Chief Roy Morrison; Captain Mike Davis; Public Relations officer James Sykes; Lieutenants Ron Bennett, Tammy Raymond and Eric Wing; and Sergeants Daniel Vasquez, Rhonda Davis and Melissa Bennett.
Raymond also serves as treasurer for the organization, while Bennett is also the executive secretary.
The CEC, now in its 52nd year of service to Corsicana and the area, is made up of all-volunteer members, and performs a variety of public safety services in the area — ranging from parking cars at football games and leading funeral escorts, to taking part in special events throughout the year including the Youth Expo and Derrick Days Celebration.
