Corsicana — Navarro County voters said 'Yes" to the proposed restoration of the Navarro County Courthouse Tuesday by approving the issue of $7.5 million in bonds to help pay for the historic makeover of the 108-year-old structure.
The final vote total was 2,219 For, and 1,471 Against the bond issue. With the passage of the bond, the county will receive $4.4 million in a state grant, and another $1 million grant from the Navarro Community Foundation.
Voters in the Kerens Independent School District turned down a proposal to issue $16.7 million in bonds for improvements and upgrades in the district. Superintendent Kevin Stanford said concerns about the athletic facilities included in the bond may have played a role in the decision by voters.Stanford said the district will listen to the voters and work on meeting future needs of the district.
