Dawson student advancing to regionals

Corsicana — Dawson Students competed at UIL Academic competitions in December and March, and High School student Stephanie Lindsey will be advancing to Regionals in Persuasive Speaking. She took third in the individual competition.

Dawson High School competitors went to Martins Mills on March 17 to compete at the UIL meet there, and the Science Team, made up of Katlyn Anderson, William Ferlet, and Michael Williams took seventh place. The Mathematics team, made up of Katlyn Anderson, William Ferlet and Lauren Hayes, won tenth place.

In One-Act Play, Michael Williams was named to the All Star Cast, and the One-Act Play cast, made up of Nolan Murray, Sophie Kammerer and Rylan Wade were named Honorable Mentions to the All Star Cast.

In individual competititions, Dawson High students got the following places:

Informative Speaking: Fifth place, Rylan Wade.

Mathematics: Ninth place, Alex Adair.

Number Sense: 11th place, Lauren Hayes, 13th place, Alyssa Walker.

Ready Writing: Sixth place, Caitlin Prance.

Science: Ninth place, Alex Adair.

Social Studies: Eighth place, Zack James

Spelling and Vocabulary: Eight place, Zack James.

The junior high school students competed in UIL in December in Wortham.

Dawson junior high students took the following places in individual competitions:

Sixth Grade:

Mathematics: Fourth place, Stephen Cox, Sixth place, Hannah Heaton. The math team of Cox, Heaton and Brendan Horner won third.

Oral Reading: Second, Hannah Heaton; fourth, Hannah Battles.

Ready Writing: First, Hannah Heaton; Third, Battles.

Maps Graphs, Charts: First, Hannah Heaton; sixth, Devin Abram. The team of Heaton, Abram and Stephen Cox won second place.

Impromptu Speaking: First, Hannah Heaton.

Dictionary Skills: First, Paden McDaniel; Third, Corbin Irwin. The team of McDaniel, Irwin and Paige Nemjo won first.

Number Sense: Second, Billy Clarkson; fifth, Kade Paris. The team of Clarkson, Paris and Brendan Horner won third place.

Social Studies: Fourth place, Monica Saldana; fifth, Madison Thomas and Daisy Garcia. The team of Saldana, Thomas and Garcia placed second.
