Spotter training on SKYWARN, the system for recognizing and alerting the public to bad and dangerous weather, including tornadoes, will take place at 7 p.m. at the Palace Theater. Registration is not necessary, and the training session is free.

Corsicana Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will be at the Corsicana YMCA from 2 to 7 p.m. If you are low income (usually under $42K) or elderly, and in need of tax filing assistance, take advantage of this free program. This year VITA will see clients with appointments first and then work with walk-ins. VITA is at the YMCA on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at the Kerens Library on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Call George Burrell at (903) 879-2091 to schedule your appointment.

Shakers and Scrapers Car Club will hold its monthly meeting at VG'z Pavilion (301 E. 3rd Ave). at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21. Shakers and Scrapers is a very diverse group of folks with a common interest of cars and a desire to help local charities and events. We hold an annual car show during Derrick Days which helps to support a local charity. If you are interested in seeing if we are a club that you might like to join, please come and attend our meeting. For information call Sean at (903) 851-7845.

IntegraCare, Cambridge Crossing and Edge Medical Supply will sponsor a free lunch with door prizes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Corsicana Y, 400 Oaklawn Dr. There will be free hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as door prizes.

March 23

Corsicana Palace Theatre, 112 W. Sixth Ave., presents Ricky Nelson Remembered at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $30 to $40. Prior to the show at 6:30 p.m. will be “Sock Hop on Sixth Avenue” with tickets at $25 each, and includes dinner and drinks. For more information contact the Palace at (903) 874-7792.

Mildred Independent School District board members approved the 31-year-old Corsicana native as the high school’s new principal Monday night.
