Four nabbed in car burglaries

Corsicana — Police answering a call reporting a car burglary found themselves with a handful of stolen guns recovered from several such break-ins early Tuesday.

Asst. Corsicana Police Chief Ronnie McGaha said officers were called at 2:20 a.m. to the 600 block of Northwood Blvd. for a reported car break-in. While in the area, Cpl. Scott Tidwell noticed four subjects standing around in the 900 block of Red Oak Lane. When Tidwell approached the subjects to question them, they fled on foot, McGaha said.

Tidwell was able to apprehend one suspect after a short foot pursuit. Nearby officers caught the other three. All four were taken into custody — three adults were arrested on charges of organized crime, and one juvenile turned over to juvenile authorities for processing.

In addition to finding the suspects, officers found three handguns at the scene, all believed to have been stolen from vehicles in the area. McGaha said the guns were found “on the ground” near where the suspects were apprehended.

Officers searching the area discovered the additional break-ins, McGaha said. At least three of the break-ins involved weapons stolen from vehicles.

He had some advice for gun owners — “Do not leave guns in your cars, especially unsecured.”

McGaha said detectives are continuing to investigate the early morning incident to see if the suspects may be connected to other burglaries.
