July 12

The VFW on W. Highway 31 will present the Frankly Country Band from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $6 each. Come out and enjoy a good time.

The Angels of Corsicana Troop Support will hold its monthly troop packing at 9 a.m. Saturday at 1020 N. Bus. 45. Please bring any addresses of military serving in harms’ way to the packing. All ages are welcome. For more information call Jean O’Connor at (903) 851-2560.

July 14

The Republican Party Of Navarro County will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. at Republican Headquarters located at 111-B West Third Avenue in downtown Corsicana. Precinct Chairs will be sworn in for the next two-year term and local party By-Laws will be adopted. State Senator Brian Birdwell will be the special guest speaker. A social time will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. saluting our elected officials. All registered voters are welcome to attend. For more information, visit

Woodmen of the World, Chapter 5, will have its meeting at 6 p.m. In the Lodge Hall at 200 W. Oak Lawn. There will be a guest speaker, Becky Stephenson, informing about an opportunity to help the community by supporting Piecemakers Quilt Guild in providing special pillows to breast cancer surgery patients at our local hospital.  All members, their families and guests are cordially invited to attend the pot luck supper and business meeting to follow.

July 17

The Corsicana Public Library will host Wild Things Zoofari at 10:30 a.m. for the 2014 Summer Reading Program. Come see exciting exotic animals up close and learn about them in the process. Be inspired to do great things for the protection of exotic animals and their native habitats as adults.


July 19

Bazzette/Prairie Point Annual Picnic will be held starting at 8 a.m. at the cemetery. Bring a covered dish, lawn chairs, and enjoy the day. Lunch will be served at noon.

  • Aaron Tidwell Tidwell tapped for top Mildred High post

    A baseball coach at heart, about a year ago Aaron Tidwell began to seriously focus on education administration. He just didn’t think an opportunity would present itself so soon. Mildred Independent School District board members approved the 31-year-old Corsicana native as the high school’s new principal Monday night.

    The Corsicana Police Department executed a raid on an alleged meth house Saturday afternoon, and it was done in about 45 minutes, all but the paperwork.
    “That part is on-going, reports and follow-up,” said Police Chief Randy Bratton on Monday.

    It stood for years in front of the Cook Center at Navarro College. Now, like so many “retirees,” it’s Florida bound.
    It took several days to partially dismantle the F-4 Phantom fighter jet enough to travel, but it was done this week.
