Corsicana — National Active/Retired Federal Employees, (NARFE), Chapter 1191, will hold its monthly meeting at Ryan’s Steakhouse, 1400 North HWY 77, Waxahachie, Texas, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Rhodie Rawls, Executive Director of Court Appointed Special Advocates, (CASA) of Ellis County will be our guest speaker. VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Site will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. to assist the elderly and low income to file their tax returns at the Kerens Public Library. To schedule an appointment call 281-682-0928.

The Annual Author’s Luncheon sponsored by the Kerens Library and Kerens Pioneer Literary Club will be held at 12 noon at the KESA Building. Texas state historian Bill O’Neal will be the guest speaker, and will speak about the musical traditions of Texas. Tickets are $10. Contact Betty Partain at (903) 396-7337 for more information.

Fish Fry to be held at the Benedictine Monastery of Thien Tam (Heavenly Heart) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The monastery is located at 13055 SE County Road 4271 Kerens, TX 75144, located off Hwy 287 and Monastery Way. The Knights of Columbus will be serving up fried catfish, fresh and hot with all the trimmings, on Friday nights through April 11.  Serving starts at 5:30 p.m. in the J.L. Collins Catholic School cafeteria and continues until 8 p.m. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and James L. Collins Catholic School are located at 3000 West Highway 22 in Corsicana.
