Fran Townes, Derrick Days chairman, announced at the monthly meeting that new event Oil Baron’s Ball is already halfway sold out, and that it is being underwritten by Guardian Industries and Oil City Iron Works. The event, which will benefit Derrick Days and VOICE, also just received a $5,000 grant from the Navarro Community Foundation. The ball is capped at 120 tickets, so act quickly, by contacting Gina Dieterichs at (903) 872-0180 or email@example.com.
Townes also mentioned another new event, the Food Pantry booth. For each item of food that is donated, the donor will receive a raffle ticket. At the end of the day, there will be a drawing for a $500 cash prize.
Each committee chairman reported the status of their event, including the Second Annual Biker Bash, chili cookoff, Oil Town Minithon, Derrick Days Parade, the Car Show and the kickoff Pocket Park lunch on Wednesday of that week, which will have the added benefit of an evening fete with hot dogs and live music in the Pocket Park again from 5 to 7 p.m.
“We would like for downtown Merchants to run specials on merchandise during Derrick Days,” Townes said.
