Warehouse Theatre honors service at annual meeting

Corsicana — The love of theater was in the air Tuesday as the Warehouse Living Arts Center held its annual meeting and member reception.

Corsicana’s very active community theater group honored its own as it celebrated the accomplishments of the previous year and moved into 2014 with the first production just a couple of weeks away.

The Warehouse honored Adam and Annot Walthall as co-winners of the Volunteer of the Year Award, recognizing distinguished service to the local theater.

Warehouse Executive Director Sandra Mahood praised the Walthalls for their contributions to the Warehouse, serving in one capacity or another in every production in the last year.

“Every year is the year of the volunteer at the Warehouse,” Mahood said.

The two other annual awards presented Tuesday were done so posthumously, honoring the service of three individuals who were all avid supporters of the arts and involved in numerous Warehouse productions.

Sandra Huffman presented the Nancy Roberts Memorial Award to two late musicians she said “were a part of the history of the Warehouse” — Anne Albritton and J.B. Kirkpatrick. Both talented Warehouse volunteers spent countless thousands of hours over the years performing as part of Warehouse musical productions — traditionally the most popular of the annual productions at the community theater. Albritton passed away in 2006; Kirkpatrick died in 2001.

Also honored Tuesday with the Gioia Keeney Award was the late Don LaSusa, who was praised by board member Tom Hecker as a tireless advocate for the Warehouse, helping raise funds in support of the community theater. LaSusa passed away in 2004. The award was accepted by his widow, Irene LaSusa.

Outgoing board president Susan Johnson was also honored with a plaque in recognition of her year of leadership.

The Warehouse’s 2014 season opens on Jan. 30 with the production of Moonlight and Magnolias.
