Corsicana — A listing of meetings and events of interest from throughout Navarro County.

The Navarro Council of the arts presents "With Six You Get Eggrolls" a Fine Art Exhibit featuring the works of Helen Albritton, Barbara Jones, Gladys Espenson, Deb Miller, Stephanie Ford, and Margie Taylor at the Warehouse Gallery from May 15 to July.  Exhibit is free and open to the public daily.

July 18-21, 23, 25-27

The Warehouse Living Arts Center production of “Moon over Buffalo,” Ken Ludwig's hysterically funny comedy, is guaranteed to keep audiences laughing. Veteran WLAC actor Gary Douglas will lead the cast of talented actors: Carlie Gehle, Sharon Goodman, C. David Hill, Randy Jones, Noah McBryde, Angel Sims and Rachel Williams. Sandra McClure Mahood is directing. The evening performances on July 18 to 20, 23, and 25 to 27 will begin at 7:30 p.m. The matinee on Sunday, July 21 will begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the WLAC box office located at 119 W Sixth Avenue in downtown Corsicana or may be purchased online at www.warehouselivingartscenter.com. July 19

The closing concert of the 17th annual session of the Texas Southern Gospel School of Music will begin at 7 p.m. at Second Avenue Baptist Church. Come and be our guest for a wonderful evening of Southern Gospel Music at its best. There is no admission chare, and the public is invited to attend.

July 20

Bazette Prairie Point Annual Picnic will be held at 8 a.m. at the cemetery. Bring a covered dish, lawn chairs, and enjoy the day visiting with family and friends. Lunch will be served at noon.

Back to School Rally held by Mystic Rose Social Service Inc., 508 N. Main St., Corsicana. This inaugural rally will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and everyone is welcome to bring the entire family, school supplies will be given away.

    Community perception of the role Navarro College plays, and how it can better serve Corsicana and Navarro County is the goal of a Town Hall meeting called at the college for Monday, April 21. The town hall presentation will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Dr. Richard M. Sanchez Library on the Corsicana campus.

    After the hail storm Monday, the Corsicana Police Department began receiving several calls from citizens reporting roofing contractors going door to door soliciting to inspect and repair roofs from possible hail damage.

And that storm — typical of spring and summertime weather in Texas — preceded by less than 24 hours a forecast of expected near-freezing temperatures.

  • City OK’s electronic billboard

    The Corsicana City Council is going to tell the city's story in a big, big way — on a 48 foot wide electronic billboard on Interstate 45. The council approved the purchase and construction of the new sign Monday, one that will help promote city events and attractions, and hopefully attract visitors — and their dollars — to the city's businesses and events.
