Repairs continue at well casing rupture site

Corsicana — Navarro Count OEM Coordinator Eric Meyers reports repair efforts are continuing at a well site on SECR 3100 south of Corsicana, where first responders have been on standby since early Thursday morning after a well casing ruptured and fracking fluids began leaking from the well.

A crew from Houston was called in to cap the well to prevent further leakage and a possible blowout.

The incident was reported to local authorities about 6 a.m. Thursday.

A spokesman for the TCEQ said air quality monitoring showed no hazardous materials in the air near the site.

A spokesman for the Texas Railroad Commission said fluids leaking from the broken casing are being contained in a retention pond at the well site.

Repeated calls to numerous individuals with O'Brien Energy, the operators of the well, have not been returned as of 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Meyers posted earlier Thursday afternoon on the NCOEM Facebook page that there was little danger outside the immediate well area, located about a half-mile off South U.S. Highway 287.
