Corsicana — Employees of the Corsicana Residential Treatment Center - also known locally as the Corsicana State Home - are being told this afternoon that the Texas Juvenile Justice Department will recommend that the facilty be closed by Jan. 1, 2014.
TJJD Executive Director Michael Griffiths is in Corsicana meeting with employees of the facility to personally inform them of the recommendation.
The full TJJD board will hold a public hearing in Austin on July 15 to hear testimony and public input on the recommendation to close the 100-year old facility, and then vote on July 26 on whether or not to approve the recommendation.
TJJD has to inform the Texas Legislative Budget Board of its decision by Sept. 1. The Legislative Budget Board has the final authority on the closure of the facility.
We'll post more information on the proposed closing, along with reaction from local leaders, later today.
