Corsicana — After the hail storm Monday, the Corsicana Police Department began receiving several calls from citizens reporting roofing contractors going door to door soliciting to inspect and repair roofs from possible hail damage.
“Citizens are encouraged to ask the contractors to show their police department issued solicitors permit signed by the police chief to verify they are authorized to solicit door to door,” said Corsicana Police Chief Randy Bratton.
The permit does not serve as an endorsement for the contractor, and citizens should research contractors online and with the Better Business Bureau, Bratton said.
Citizens are also encouraged to report suspected damage to their insurance company so their insurance company can send out an adjuster to evaluate the damage and coordinate with the contractor's written repair estimates.
Citizens should always get written estimates before authorizing repairs of any kind.
Contractors not having a permit or acting suspicious should be reported to the police department at 903-654-4902, Bratton said.
