A shooting early Sunday on the city’s east side has left one man hospitalized — reportedly with a bullet near his spine.
Corsicana Police Chief Randy Bratton said the altercation occurred at a gathering in a residence near Carroll Elementary School that police have been called to “frequently” for noise and disturbance complaints.
Bratton said according to a preliminary investigation, a man at the residence became upset when a woman was reportedly hit in the head. The suspect then allegedly fired at least two shots from a gun into the crowd, striking one man in the upper hip. Bratton said it appeared the man that was shot was “running for cover” and not “an intentional victim.”
The shooting victim was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, possibly facing surgery due to his wound.
Police have detained one suspect in the shooting. Names of the suspect and victim have not yet been released.
