Council to meet EDC finalist

Corsicana — William “Bill” King will be recommended to the Corsicana City Council Tuesday evening as the lone candidate for economic development director, according to City Manager Connie Standridge.

King was the president and CEO of the Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation for five years, between 2008 and May of this year. In that capacity, he served as economic development director for both the city and county, as he would in Corsicana and Navarro County.

He was editor of “Expansion Magazine,” a business magazine, for about 15 years.

King’s resume shows that he served in the Army for 23 years. He has a B.A. in political science from Texas A&M University, and a masters of International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

He is married to Linda King and together they have three children. The youngest is a senior at Nacogdoches High, while the other two sons are scheduled to graduate from Stephen F. Austin University this year.

According to a May 16 article in the Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel, King resigned in May, saying it was time to move onto other things, and it was time for NEDCO to get new leadership.

The position of economic development director has been vacant since Lee McCleary resigned to go to Red Oak this past May.
