The Navarro Council of the arts presents "With Six You Get Eggrolls" a Fine Art Exhibit featuring the works of Helen Albritton, Barbara Jones, Gladys Espenson, Deb Miller, Stephanie Ford, and Margie Taylor at the Warehouse Gallery from May 15 to July.  Exhibit is free and open to the public daily.

July 1

CHS Calicos Dance Drill Team will hold a BIG BAKE SALE at Big Lots on Seventh Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Start July off with a Big Bang of a Bake Sale! Support your local Calicos Dance Team!

July 4

The American Legion and The American Legion Auxiliary, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will host Karaoke from 5 to 10 p.m. Come over and enjoy some good music and free hot dogs.

The Blooming Grove July 4 parade and activities will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a dog show and silent auction in the park. Parade entries need to line up at the high school parking lot at 9:30 am. All types of floats are welcome. The silent auction will feature patriotic artwork. The dog show is open to everyone. The categories are most patriotic, dog owner look alike, and best trick. There will also be a most patriotic yard contest with winners announced after the parade. July 6

The American Legion, Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will hold its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the post.  All members and prospective members are invited to attend.  For further information call (903) 874-3936 after 2 p.m. or Like us on Facebook (American Legion Post 22 Johnson-Wiggins).  

July 7

The Kinsloe House hosts the July First Sunday luncheon at Kinsloe House on July 7, 2013.  Though the house is officially closed we are still holding the luncheon at the regular time 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The luncheon will consist of a tasty pork loin or a chicken dish with a salad, carrots, rice and two delicious desserts to choose from. The desserts will be a key lime laced coconut cake and a delicious cheesecake or a sugar free pudding. Please make your reservations by noon, Friday, July 5th by calling the Kinsloe House at (903) 874-5791 or call Jeani the  caterer. Since summer has set in, this will be a welcome change to the summer heat.

  • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
