Corsicana — A chemical spilled on Interstate 45 in a crash near the 238 mile marker has been determined to be "non-hazardous" and cleanup efforts have begun.
An 18-wheeler carrying drums of chemicals crashed into a construction work crew truck about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, causing the spill when a barrel was punctured in the crash.
No construction crews were injured in the crash, but the driver of the 18 wheeler was taken to Navarro Regional Hospital by ground ambulance. An air ambulance called to the scene did not transport the victim due to possible contamination.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 45 were closed for over an hour while Haz-Mat crews investigated the crash and spill.
Southbound traffic has resumed through the area. Northbound traffic is being diverted onto the southbound service road to help clear up an estimated six mile backup.
Once the crash site is cleared, northbound traffic is expected to resume normal flow.
