Fertilizer plant explosion in West rocks region

Corsicana — An explosion at a fertilizer plant in West Wednesday night is has resulted in numerous fires in nearby structures and multiple injuries.

The explosion was reported shortly before 8 p.m., and was felt throughout the region, including across Navarro County, Ellis County, and into the southern part of the Metroplex.

A large plume of smoke and what's been described on social media as a "100-foot-fireball" rose from the plant.

KDFW is reporting that a nursing home and middle school have been damaged in the blast, and other structures are reported ablaze as well.

Firefighters and emergency crews from surrounding counties have been called in to assist local authorities in West. KDFW reported that DPS troopers were transporting some of the injured in their patrol vehicles to a hospital in Waco.
