Local group seeks help for West

VFW food supply depleted

Corsicana — A small band of volunteers from the local VFW on Hwy 31 have been cooking each night until the wee hours of the morning, then transporting the food to the VFW in West, where they feed between 800 and 1,000 people per day.

But their food supply has been depleted.

“The good people of Corsicana and Navarro County are always so willing to help, and the VFW needs assistance in order to continue helping the folks in West,” said Tammie McWhorter of the VFW. “We need meats, such as chicken leg quarters, hamburger, klobase sausage, etc. (not high end meats). We also need large cans of vegetables such as corn, mixed vegetables, carrots, green beans. Fresh produce in the form of potatoes, onions, mixed salad and tomatoes, and staples like instant potatoes, salt, pepper, flour, corn meal, baking powder, sugar, even large foil roasting pans to transport food, dish soap and aluminum foil. Anything that could be put together to feed these poor people is needed.”

McWhorter will be happy to meet anyone wishing to help to pick up items, or they can be delivered to the VFW after 4 p.m. Contact McWhorter at (903) 467-6364. The VFW Post 3366 is located at 4609 W. State Highway 31.
