A perfect partnership

Kids and pediatric therapy students mix it up in summer program

Corsicana — The Early Childhood Academy at James L. Collins Catholic School has partnered with the Navarro College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program for the summer.

The NC students are learning about pediatric occupational therapy this summer and are able to practice their new skills while playing with the children at ECA.

The children at ECA look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays each week when the college students come to play. The students from the college look for developmental milestones in each of the ECA kids, as well looking to see if the children continue to have primitive reflexes.

The OTA students will give the preschool teachers feedback every week with ideas and activities to implement into their classroom programs.

Brandi Robinson, ECA director, said she is excited to be able to offer this benefit to each of the children. Robinson is dedicated to new and innovative ideas to promote the growth and development of not only the children in her care but for her teachers as well.

A new playground is in the works and is specifically designed to address every area of growth for the children.

The children will have the opportunity to use their imaginations while using both fine and gross motor skills. They will incorporate music, water, dirt, art as well as an outdoor classroom into their learning environment.
