Corsicana — The Cowboy Church of Corsicana will be the venue at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 21 for Allen Frizzell, Lefty’s “other” brother when he performs during the morning worship service. Cowboy Church of Corsicana is located at 5461 W. Hwy. 31, Corsicana. This Frizzell was born into a legendary family in country music, then reborn into God’s family. He received the 2012 ICGMA’s Living Legend Award. Come join us and hear this award-winning Christian/Gospel artist. Services are held every Sunday at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. will be Family Fun Night, and everyone is invited. Come old, young, and in between. Bring your friends and neighbors. One of the special events for that night will be goat roping, which will be done on foot so if you don’t have a horse, come on. There will also be a water slide and other water activities so bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Calling All Prayer Warriors: Please meet in front of the Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013 for Intercessory Prayer for our community leaders and citizens as they prepare to go to Austin on Monday, July 15, 2013 to meet with state officials to discuss the possible closing of the Corsicana State Home. New Bethel Baptist Church, 700 Elm Flat Road, Goodlow, invites the public to our pastor and wife pre-anniversary service at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 12. Guest speaker will be Pastor Dairy Johnson of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Corsicana. Other guest will be Mt. B. Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Nathan Carter. On Saturday, at 7 p.m. the program committee will sponsor a Pastor and Wife Appreciation Banquet in the fellowship hall at New Bethel Baptist Church. Special Speaker will be Pastor C. Jenkins of the Cedar Fork Baptist Church in Trinidad. Tickets are $7 each and may be purchased no through July 12. For tickets call (903) 851-0144. The Anniversary Service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14.     Lacy Rose Goodrich, 9, is a typical Bowie fourth-grader. She likes to watch “Full House,” reruns and “iCarly,” and she has a dog and a cat. She takes gymnastics and dance lessons, and has attended four different Vacation Bible Schools this summer, as well as all the parks and recreation summer programs for kids.
    What’s unusual about Lacy is that she also raised nearly $500 for the food pantry since Easter, which is the equivalent of 3,450 pounds of food for hungry Navarro County residents.

  • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.
