Corsicana — Intercessors for Navarro County Men’s Prayer Breakfast will meet at Navarro College, in the Lone Star Room at the cafeteria at 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday mornings. Please note the return to usual venue. Men who are interested in praying for all those in authority are welcome to join (1 Timothy 2:1-3) For more information, please call (903) 874-5561.

Wesley United Methodist Church, 3308 N. Beaton St., will hold Vacation Bible School July 15-18 from 9 to 11 a.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade. For more information call (903) 874-0718.

Central Baptist Church in Blooming Grove will hold Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. July 15-19. Children age 5 through completed grade six are admitted free for a Bible School like they’ve never experienced before!! For more information, call (903) 695-2271.

Unity Baptist Church, 101 S. 30th St., where Chad Owens is Pastor, invites you to services: Sunday School 9:45 a.m. Sunday: worship and children’s church at 11 a.m., worship at 6 p.m., and Wednesday: Prayer meeting at 7 p.m., Kings Kids class meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.  We now have Kings Kids for Teens also. Tuesday, a group from Unity visits shut-ins at 10 a.m. Thursday, there is a Bible study at Northwest Apartments Community Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, we will have our Monthly Sing Night starting at 6 p.m.  Sunday, a group teaches and sings at Twilight Nursing Home at 9 a.m. Our VBS, The Kingdom of God, will be July 22-26 from 5-8 p.m. Ages are 4-14. Harvey Strain and his puppets will be at VBS also!  For transportation to services, call (903) 872-2861. A nursery is open for church services.

Bethel S.D.A. Church, 717 E. 13th Ave., will hold a Youth Pathfinders Parade at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 20. Dr. Norman Stiggers, pastor. Come and sign up your child for great Pathfinders Adventure for Christ, Sabbath School at 9 a.m., Worship at 11 a.m. and Youth Parade at 4 p.m. Pathfinders Leaders from the City Temple will be there.     Lacy Rose Goodrich, 9, is a typical Bowie fourth-grader. She likes to watch “Full House,” reruns and “iCarly,” and she has a dog and a cat. She takes gymnastics and dance lessons, and has attended four different Vacation Bible Schools this summer, as well as all the parks and recreation summer programs for kids.
    What’s unusual about Lacy is that she also raised nearly $500 for the food pantry since Easter, which is the equivalent of 3,450 pounds of food for hungry Navarro County residents.

    The jury called for Aug. 4 at 8:30 a.m. District Court, Judge James Lagomarsino has been dismissed.

  • City cancels ambulance contract with county

    The City of Corsicana has notified Navarro County officials it is cancelling its agreement with the county to provide EMS ambulance service to areas outside the city limits. According to a letter sent to county officials by Corsicana Mayor Chuck McClanahan, ambulance service to county residents will end on Jan. 31, 2015.

    The project to rebuild Seventh Avenue or Highway 31 as it goes through Corsicana is almost over. From an uneven patchwork of paving and pitted concrete, now it’s a smooth ride from Beaton all the way through town.
    It just took an extra year to finish.

    An attempt to bootleg electricity off a pole using jumper cables is believed to have caused a building fire that took out a former restaurant in Angus Friday morning, one of a series of calls to Navarro County Sheriff’s Office to the southern end of the county over the weekend.
