I would like to begin by saying thank you to each of you that took the time to respond to the downtown event survey. Your input is valuable and much needed.
Your responses showed that there are clear-cut preferences for downtown events. Saturday evenings are preferred more than two-to-one over both Friday evenings or Saturday mornings. Only one in four responders indicated they would bring a teenager or child to an event, and more than 50 percent expressed interest in music at Pocket Park, live music and dining at downtown restaurants, and “strolls” through downtown retail businesses.
Clearly, citizens want a more adult-oriented monthly event. Like last year, the Second Saturday events will begin in April, but with more focus on the downtown venues.
The dates will be:
The kickoff event on April 12 will feature not one, but two block parties – celebrating the grand opening of the new Corsicana Opry & Event Center on 5th Avenue, and another at Napoli’s Pizza and Restaurant on Collin Street. Also, the Remington Roadhouse will have live music, and a production of “Suessical the Musical” will be offered at the Palace Theater as a more family-friendly option. Events in May and June will feature karaoke and live performances with Main Street hosting an open microphone at Pocket Park. Please call 903-654-4851 for more information.
Downtown’s live music venues will all be buzzing, and the Main Street staff is working with other business owners to take advantage of the increased foot traffic. Downtown’s first wine bar, along with a new sports bar, Extra Innings, will be opening in the coming weeks, giving downtowners even more options. With so much to offer this spring and summer, Corsicana has become the place to be on Second Saturdays!
