An incident Saturday night at the Navarro County Jail resulted in one prisoner being taken to Navarro Regional Hospital with what was described as self-inflicted cuts, and four others treated at the jail for similar injuries.
Sheriff Elmer Tanner said the disturbance took place in one section of the jail, when the inmates managed to break a glass window, and used small shards of glass from the broken window to cut themselves.
Tanner said it was not a fight between the inmates. All the cuts were self-inflicted, he said.
“One required medical treatment at the hospital,” Tanner said. “He cut himself pretty good,” Tanner said.
That inmate was treated at the hospital and returned to the jail. The other four inmates were treated by medical staff at the jail he said.
Officers from the Corsicana Police Department responded to the jail to assist deputies during the incident.
Tanner said none of the other inmates in the section of the jail where the incident took place were involved.
“It appears (the five) made a pact amongst themselves, to draw attention to themselves,” he said.
The inmates were separated after they were treated, he said. There are no additional charges anticipated against those involved.
